Character of The Earl of Mansfield.
This noble Earl, who has so long presided in the chief
court of law with such singular and resplendent reputation,
is the fourth son of David, the fifth Viscount Stormont, of
the Kingdom of Scotland.

It was during his residence in Lincoln's Inn and before he
had taken the gown, that Mr. Pope dedicated to him that
celebrated imitation of the First Ode of the Fourth Book of

Poet, and the character of him to whom it was addressed.
